• PRESCHOOL TUITION PROGRAM: First 5 Sierra pays tuition for 3-5 year olds of Sierra County to attend 3 hours per day, three days a week, 42 weeks a year at licensed childcare facilities in Sierra County.
  • MUSIC TOGETHER: In a partnership with Sierra County Mental Health and Sierra-Plumas Joint Unified School District, the Music Together program is offered to preschool age students in Sierra County. the Music Together program is a nationally recognized highly structured curriculum, based on extensive, evidence based research and practice. The program must be provided by a trained director, using a specific step-by-step curriculum.
  • ROLLING INTO READING: The Rolling Into Reading gymnastics program is provided by a contracted instructor. The activities have demonstrated success in working students through movements that better prepare them for the motions of reading. The organized physical activity that results from the program also develops, fitness, improved balance and a sense of accomplishment at the same time involve students in positive school readiness behavior.
  • PROVIDER NETWORK PROGRAM: All qualified childcare providers and preschool teachers are invited to access Provider Network professional development support. First 5 Sierra maintains a Provider network to coordinate training activities related to best practices and emerging¬†issues in childcare. Through the Provider Network Program, Network members receive reimbursement for books and tuition costs for college credits earned in Early Childhood Education and related courses, professional growth counseling, have individual progress toward professional goals tracked and receive incentive stipends when educational milestones are reached. Participating licensed centers are reimbursed for a position of their liability insurance.
  • HIGH SIERRA FAMILY RESOURCE CENTER: First 5 Sierra provides High Sierra a subsidy to support programs they offer to families of 0-5 year olds living in Sierra County. The services support needs included in the Strategic Plan.
  • MINI-GRANTS: Small, short-term funding opportunities are offered to locally-initiated proposals that support and address the needs in the Strategic Plan.
  • CHILDCARE FACILITY PROJECT: A central and ongoing effort of First 5 Sierra involved planning, construction and management of a safe and efficient childcare facility on public school property adjacent to the Loyalton Elementary School. The center coordinates family transportation with the elementary school, offers afterschool care and coordinates special education services. Toddler Towers Inc., the only licensed childcare center in the county,¬†leases the facility. The facility has been in operation since 2009.
  • PRESCHOOL GENERAL SUBSIDY PROGRAM: First 5 Sierra provides a subsidy to two licensed childcare programs. The amount of subsidy is based on size and allows centers to offer adequate staff and facilities for school readiness with trained teachers and strong, evidence based curriculum.
  • SIERRA SAFE KIDS: First 5 Sierra funds the Car Seat and Bike Helmet Program operated through Sierra County Child Abuse Council. This program meets the goals of the Strategic Plan. The program provides car seats and bike helmets to children ages 0-5 and training to parents, grandparents, and guardians.
